We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Buttermilk Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Buttermilk Trail
“Excellent quiet walk, mostly shaded, some up and down but easy trail.”
One of the VERY BEST and HISTORICAL trails of Richmond...I've been hiking & biking "The Buttermilk" since 1990.....
The trail seems to be more oriented for biking, but the cyclists were all friendly to me as I was on foot. The trail is relatively short, but it does contain a healthy amount of elevation changes. The greenery is beautiful. Even though the trail runs alongside the street, traffic isn’t really noticeable.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
