Confirmed from River Lakes Conservation Area Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about River Lakes Conservation Area Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (63 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“The oak trees are stunning as they twist and turn every which way and the Oak Tree Shelter is a great spot to stop and eat some snacks.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions
🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“Very peaceful, never saw another soul.”

There are 2 trails there, Red and yellow. The yellow is longer (about 3.6 miles) and less shady. The red trail is about 2.5 miles each way. We passed many cows on the yellow trail. Parts of both trails (but particularly the red) are not well mowed.

★★★★☆ — Felicia , Jun 2020

Great place for day hikes and camping. Deer/boar and other wildlife fun to see. Fantastic spot to let your dog run free.

★★★★★ — Zoiks , Mar 2019

This is a relatively isolated wildlife management area. We walk the trails frequently. Just be mindful of the hunting seasons.

★★★★★ — Larry , Mar 2017

Nice open trail, especially compared to the rest of what is available in the area. You have a chance to see cool birds and cattle on the adjacent farms. Lots of off leash dogs though

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
