Confirmed from Rockefeller State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Rockefeller State Park
“The peony flowers are in full bloom at this moment, especially beautiful and spectacular”
Visited with a friend in mid September. Beautiful short trails around this state park. We parked on a side road, to avoid the parking fee through the main entrance. The trails are wide and well marked. They go along a stream of water and connect with a large lake at the center of the park.
Plenty of easy trails. Gets busy after 8am so best time to enjoy the park is a little after sunrise. Not everyone wears masks (although it’s required).
Mostly for hiking or walking. Nice wide walking trail around the lake. A few stone benches to sit at. Most of the paths are gravel & dirt. Has bathrooms in the parking lot. It’s $6 to park all day with pay stations to pay to park. Not really good for fishing since there’s really no place to cast from.
This is a magical place with a zen vibe. Miles of beautiful trails through woods, streams, and lakes. A remarkable place just an hour from Manhattan where one can enjoy a walk or jog and appreciate nature at its best.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
