Confirmed from Rose Island Resort's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Rose Island Resort

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (319 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“It's a beautiful place with an interesting history.”

This is a really nice, hidden treasure of history in southern Indiana. Be warned, the sign at the top of the his is not kidding. I actually had to carry one of my dogs part of the way up the hill. It’s pretty steep. But the trail through the old park is really neat. My kids loved it and we all had a lot of fun.

A beautiful place. My first time in the park, and we made the walk to Rose Island. Not a whole lot to see, but the signs posted at areas of interest are very informative. The trail is well maintained and absolutely beautiful. The hill to/from is no joke, but it is paved. If you're in good shape, you'll break a sweat.

A hike but well worth it. The history and remnants of days past are pretty cool. Located inside Charleston State Park. Best suggestion take a guided tour.

If you're interested in local history and like nature check out the guided tour with Jeremy Beavin. He is an excellent guide full of information. If you like hiking... the park has some nice trails. Very well maintained Park

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

⛰️ Hills / elevation 26 mentions

“There is much ado about the massive hill you go down and that you will have to walk back up after sigh seeing.”
