Confirmed from Sam's Branch Greenway's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 5 mentions

“Always a peaceful run and plenty of shade from the trees to make it even more pleasant in spite of the hot, summer days.”

Shaded parking over greenway trail or at municipal park from which you can get on to the trail. Great for cycling, good for walking and running. Paved trail throughout and gets next to neuse trail after 2 miles or so. Lot of construction going on around trail but no distractions to trail.

Beautiful path along the river for miles! Always a peaceful run and plenty of shade from the trees to make it even more pleasant in spite of the hot, summer days. Early mornings on the path in summer are best!

Great for biking, running or walking. Paved trail surrounded by nature is excellent for anyone who enjoys being in nature while getting a workout or taking a leisurely stroll.

★★★★★ — Rosa , Jun 2019

A very peaceful and nicely done new addition to the trail. There have been very few people on it every time we've been on it. I think the only downside to this trail is the fact that it looks like a housing development is going in right next to a chunk of the trail meaning it won't be the nice green secluded area for…

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
