Confirmed from Samuel Butts Archeological Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

My husband and I always have a lovely time walking around this park. Beautifully kept and the bathroom doors were FINALLY unlocked for use. Great day =)

This is a large park with a lengthy walking trail that encircles 2 ponds. There are public bathrooms that appear well maintained. Lots of birds including ducks and ibis. Use the parking lot on Bellevue Ave. The north parking lot is small, secluded and doesn't feel safe.

Nice walking trail. Ducks and other water fowl to be seen. Some outlook spots to read about historical events on location. Covered area for water overlook. Not much shade so if your there in the summer prepare with water.

★★★★☆ — Stephanie , Aug 2020

Beautiful peaceful walk, birds, trees, some teenagers. I thoroughly enjoyed it withmy dog.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Samuel Butts Archeological Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
