We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of San Dieguito River Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about San Dieguito River Trail
“I like the trail is beautiful I went for 3 hrs walking, can see the small river.”
This trail is incredible and very well maintained. This a great place to hike, bike, take the dog for a walk, go bird watching or geocaching. Keep an eye out for rattle snakes in the summer and bring water. You could spend all day hiking here. It really is a gem and there is usually parking.
This trail is right next to the freeway but after walking only for few minutes you will be in the wilderness, it's a bird sanctuary, you can see beautiful blooms of wild flowers in spring
Nice relatively flat trail along lake Hodges, which is very low as of Aug 2023. Trail is well-groomed, nice and wide, good surface to walk or bike. Not too steep either. Not very shaded so prepare for sun exposure. The sign says 2.
Always a great hike. The slight height in elevation make it a good work out. A lot of bikes on the weekends, so if you are only hiking week days are best.
