We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Sandia Mountain Wilderness yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Sandia Mountain Wilderness
“Beautiful autumn views all around .”
Hang a hammock between two ponderosa pine for a quiet nap and this is why I love Sandia wilderness so much. Following deer trails is my favorite. Carry a rescue beacon when hiking solo and enjoy the solitude.
Good for beginner hikers (like me haha). It’s a good amount of gradual inclination that will challenge you. Make sure to wear the proper clothes and shoes because there are a lot of plants shrubs + some rocks are extremely slippery.
Trail conditions & character
