Confirmed from Schappacher Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Informal dog run, grassy and mulch-covered park featuring a playground, a picnic area and fenced-in areas for small and large dogs.
What runners say about Schappacher Park
“This is about the dog park specifically: It is clean, mud-free, due to wood chips and some artificial turf and stones.”
“This is a nice little space, with a shaded dog run, a small playground and a covered picnic area.”
A hidden gem. A nice park in a residential neighborhood. It has a dog park separated out for large and small dogs. The side for large dogs is huge. Lots of room to run. The park also has an updated play area for children. We found this park towards the end of last summer.
Fun playground, large field with plenty of room to run. Lovely large trees! Also, a large, well cleaned and planned dog park.
This is a nice little space, with a shaded dog run, a small playground and a covered picnic area. Nothing fancy, but clean, and there are often neighborhood dogs here for your pooch to play with. The entrance is on Old Irwin Simpson road, not to be confused with nearby Irwin Simpson.
While the play area at the park is small, there is plenty of space to run around in the sun and the dog park is great as well. I personally love that they don't attempt to grow much grass in the dog park area and go with mulch instead. This really keeps down the mud, especially after a rain.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
