Confirmed from Shane's Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Bikers' and runners' multi-use trail with views of the city.
What runners say about Shane's Trail
Love Shane's trail... and five mile, a bit up the road. Shane's is gentle and open. A wonderful hike with expansive views in every direction.
Most exposed of all the trails off Rocky Canyon Road. Good easy to intermediate trails for beginner/intermediate. Good for building stamina back up and logging simple miles on your legs.
Super easy to get to & a fairly quick 5-mile jaunt. You can easily trail run it.
What an honor to hike this trail!!! I can’t believe it was named after the one and only Shane Hall. He is such an inspiration to people all over the world!!! Hiking this trail is like sharing a moment with him and breathing in all he has done for the state of Idaho.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
