Confirmed from Shawnee State Forest Headquarters' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
60,000-plus acres of camping & wilderness areas, with bridle & hiking trails, boating & fishing.
What runners say about Shawnee State Forest Headquarters
“Excellent atmosphere, forest is beautiful, check out the nature center and the activities for adults and children.”
A spectacular forest in southern Ohio known by the locals as the 'little smokies' with the rolling hills and unbroken forests, it is a botanical treasure. This state forest has a nice lodge and while is quiet in the forest, is close to Portsmouth OH with good places to eat and historic sites to visit.
Campsites are well spaced. The bathrooms are clean. Good hiking available. You can hear highway noise at the campsites which was a bit disappointing but otherwise it is a very nice park.
I have been coming here for many decades now and I love it just add much now as I did when I started coming to the Forest to hike and or just relax.
The trails are great and a good cardiovascular workout without the need for running. Plus**They allow dogs in the campground and on all trails**
