Confirmed from Raven Rock State Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Raven Rock State Nature Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (50 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Views at the top was beautiful, however the school building and other buildings really take away from a what would have been a spectacular view.”

A piece of history that's an exhilarating hike too but worth every step. Make sure you don't miss this place it's too amazing to explain with words. A life-changing experience.

★★★★★ — Larry , Apr 2024

Permit is required.Moderately hard hike with some steep climbs. The history is rich and the hike feels secluded even though you are next to a state route. The parking lot is located at the end of Cox-malone road where there is a barrier with a no pet allowed sign posted.

★★★★☆ — Lam , Sep 2019

This is an amazing hike. Not easy by any means. Be prepared for quite a hill climb. Best time to go is when there are no leaves on the trees. Because the views are amazing.

★★★★★ — Gregory , Oct 2024

One of the best views of the mighty Ohio River. The hike is moderate on an intensity level and the trail was rerouted years ago adding switchbacks.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
