Confirmed from Shoalwater Bay Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Shoalwater Bay Trailhead
“Started down Old Eagle, great views not the best smell when you get close to the water but that's klamath water for you.”
“The trail is very easy to walk, with minimal elevation gain and is clearly marked.”
This trail head is one of three options from this parking and access point for the Spence Mountain system of trails. Traveling 1.6 miles up the hill on the trail you hit a junction where you can turn deep into the system or carry on with this trail another 1.
From this trailhead parking lot there are several trail options. It was my first time here so I took the old eagle. Was flat most of the way. There was a moderate breeze so the bugs weren’t bad. This is enjoyed by both hikers and bikers alike so you have to be aware of others who might be coming along.
In my opinion the best place to start your ride. Multiple green trail options, that lead to the more advance trails. Allows for a good progression. Also plenty of parking, and like that the TH is not just off the highway.
