Confirmed from Spence Mountain Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Well-maintained trail system, popular with hikers and bikers alike, featuring lake views.
What runners say about Spence Mountain Trailhead
“The trail is fairly well maintained, with most of the trail kept in good shape by people walking on it.”
“Many choices for shorter or longer hikes and all trails lead to stunning views, birdwatching, and great exercise instead piney, crisp mountain air!”
“The trail is a new one for the area and the trailhead was clearly marked.”
“Great place for an easy hike or whatever level of mountain biking you desire!”
It was my first trip to the Klamath Falls area. I was looking for an outing that would be a great solo hike without getting too far back into the woods. I thought about hoping on the PCT, but found this as a great option. The trail is a new one for the area and the trailhead was clearly marked.
This is a nice and convenient trail system just outside Klamath Falls. Even though the trails are more geared towards mountain biking, it’s still a great place to hike. There are trails for all levels of hikers with some great views of the lake. There are many trails in this area, and it is easy to wander off trail.
There are multiple trails to choose from in this system. We enjoyed the trail along the lake on the east side and made a day of it hiking most of the way around the perimeter. Trail junctions can be confusing so it's good to have a map first (or second) time out.
Tough trails lead up the mountain. Small "rock gardens" (tons of rocks all over the trail) are strewn about. Great views of the lake towards the top. There's designated downhill trails to lead you back. Google maps is pretty solid with leading you to the right place. Port-A-Potty to the left of the trailhead/map.
