Confirmed from Shurtleff Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Grass and shade abound at this large dog park featuring areas for running and socializing.

What runners say about Shurtleff Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (134 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌳 shaded & cool 6 mentions

“The back half is a loop through the woods, perfect for hot days since it's completely shaded.”

Fantastic space for social dogs to visit! This space is safely fenced, has plenty of running space for dogs to chase balls, and some “hiking” space for dogs and people to explore.

Love taking my dog to this park. You can have your dog off the leash here and let him/her go run around the giant grass areas. UPDATE: They installed a fence at the front entrance of the park making it a much better off-leash dog park. THANK YOU CITY OF NAPA!!

My favorite park in town to take the dogs. I like brining them out on the weekend becaus there's lots of other dogs out at that time. It has a giant open field to let your dogs play off leash, as well as a little creek that runs along the fence.

★★★★★ — Rain , Feb 2022

We love this dog park!! Lots of grass and space to run around with doggy friends. It also features a little trail loop at the back of the park with creek access that we explore each visit! Rusty approved! 🐾

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 56 mentions

“Very fun park to bring your dog to, can be very muddy after it rains obviously, but if you don't mind the mud you can watch your dogs play in the small stream.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
