Confirmed from Shutes Branch Mountain Bike Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Kid-friendly hiking area offering bike trails and fishing, plus several trail options.
What runners say about Shutes Branch Mountain Bike Trail
A few spider webs to go through early on a Wednesday morning, but the second time around was amazing and fast. Great place to get some quick biking in! Fun workout. Trail start where the stairs are is off the lake up the hill.
Halloween and Christmas decorations are a pleasant addition to the trails entrance.
First time here, and easy to get acclimated! Did the first two sections (inaugural run on my new Trek Roscoe 7!) and turned back out on the second pavement crossing back to the car. Thumbs up for a great trail convenient to Hermitage, Old Hickory, Madison & Mt Juliet!
Great trails that progressively become more challenging, well maintained and a lot of great technical areas. With over 8 miles of trails one can spend half a day here easily.
Trail conditions & character
“The only difficult portion is the rocky sections because it’s technical but most of the trail flows fairly well.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
