Confirmed from Silver Lake's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Very fun place to go for some easy hikes! There is a lot of wildlife to see too. It is common to see moose and deer roaming around. It is also a fun place to go fishing or to have a picnic. Most of the trail around Silver Lake is a board walk. However there are several parts in dirt and rocks.

Silver lake is a GORGEOUS mountain walk. It's an easy stroll around the mild lake, with a lovely boardwalk and a variety of views. From the mountain peaks, to the open grass marsh, the tall pines, and the aspen grove further back on the trail.

★★★★★ — Rachel , Jan 2021

Great place for family trekking around the Silver lake, short and sweet - about a mile. Mountains, spruce trees, rocks and wild life makes it special. Not too far from SLC and a short drive. Cool breeze, trees shade and well maintained walk way makes it a pleasurable trekking.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceBoardwalk — flat and scenic, and slick when wet, so watch your footing
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
