Confirmed from Bloods Lake Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area with alpine lakes and mountain views, a kid-friendly trail, and a pit toilet.
What runners say about Bloods Lake Trailhead
“The trails are well maintained and it looks like there will be a plethora of lupine in the lower area come early July.”
“Beautiful trails and the lake is incredible, we even saw a moose right at the lake!”
“The trail is mostly in shaded trees except for the middle part where you walk on the floor of the valley for a quarter mile or so.”
“At almost 10,000 feet it is an easy hike but cooler due to the elevation.”
One of the most beautiful hikes on this side of the mountains in my opinion. This trail will offer some of the most beautiful views, especially during the fall with all the leaves changing color, as well as a clear lake in the middle of the trees and mountain.
This is my favorite mountain hike near SLC. The trail is mostly shaded with beautiful views. It’s never super crowded. And the lake is beautiful. Swimming is allowed. We hiked this in late June. The valley was 98° but the lake itself was 79°. The water was chilly, but not so cold that you couldn’t get used to it.
This lake is on my top 10 must hikes. I try to hike it 5 time a year. I would say 3 out of the five time I see a moose that hangs out along the path. If you don’t bother it it doesn’t bother you. A lot of people stand down around the corner waiting for it to move on but find them selves waiting all day.
The hike is absolutely stunning right now! I’ve done three moderate rated short hikes the past 4 days: Fifth Water Hot Springs, Rob’s Trail, and this one. This is my favorite scenery wise. I will confess that the lake really isn’t much. The drive down Pine Canyon Road is stunning as well!

“Bloods Lake Trail: relatively flat and easy, through the aspen trees, until the last 200–300 yards, which are very steep switchbacks to get up to Bloods Lake.”
“The trail to the lake was relatively steep, but the return loop on the other side was easy.”
“Great hike for families, kids and dogs on the trails wasn’t too busy.”
