Confirmed from Sourdough/Bozeman Creek Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Well-maintained trail stretching on for dozen miles, featuring creek views.
What runners say about Sourdough/Bozeman Creek Trailhead
“Nice wide well maintained trail close to Bozeman.”
“It is freshly Road graded so it will be nice and easy walking.”
Great spot to get outside! Easy grade, Old road bed. Along the creek is nice. We rode ravel bikes up to the Mystic Lake cabin, 10 miles back, 1,600 feet elevation gain. There are a few other trails off shooting from this main trail. Those are definitely more hiking or mountain biking trails.
Great starter "trail". Wide road with some bumps, and ups and downs. Beautiful views. Perfect ride for anyone who's not comfortable with a single track. Includes some optional single track, like "Wall Of Death" to make things more exciting. Beautiful Mystic Lake at the end.
Great family hike or starting point to visit mystic Lake. The trail is wide and smooth but the trail can be busy year round. It is typically groomed for cross country skiing during the winter season.
The great thing about this trail is the incredible number of places you can go from it. While the first four miles or so are pretty easy and usually pretty crowded with lots of dogs, after the bridge you can go anywhere. Right takes you to leverich. Left takes you to mystic lake, and beyond.

“While the first four miles or so are pretty easy and usually pretty crowded with lots of dogs, after the bridge you can go anywhere.”
“2 track road continues 5 more miles to Mystic Lake, or the Wall of Death single track leads from the 5 mile bridge to Mystic Lake as well.”
“It is a great trail, fairly flat & wide (2 track, with some ruts in places) for first 5 miles, common for walkers, dogs, bikers.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
