Confirmed from Kirk Hill's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

It was a beautiful day and as an overnight visitor, I had the time to get outside for a hike. The trailhead parking area is easily accessible and has a map of the area. Easy to follow the directions on the map as well as the maps on the trail. Scenic vista's and panoramas.

Great little hiking trails. I like that there's a map posted at every trail intersection to let you know where you are, and make a decision on which way you want to go . Also gives miles and kilometers of trails. Good exercise and great scenery !

A favorite hiking spot that will help give your calves a workout for the first portion of the ascent . After getting over the uphill portion, the trail connects to an old logging road that goes on for miles down a nearby canyon.

My Dad used to bring me here often, when I was a child, so my love of this place may be partially sentimental. This is a really good quick hike, but can be extended for just about anything long as you like.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
