Confirmed from Sourland Mountain Hiking Trail Hillsborough's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring boulder formations as well as hiking trails, a few of which are easy and a few of which are steep.
What runners say about Sourland Mountain Hiking Trail Hillsborough
“The trails were well marked and even though it was the weekend it wasn't too busy.”
“Starting early at 8:00 am was definitely the right move—it allowed for a peaceful, quiet experience before the trails got busier.”
“Sourland is the perfect hiking trail for easy hikes.”
Wonderful place to go hiking! There are plenty of different trails to accommodate all skill levels and activity types. Beautiful scenery. I can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!! Suitable for children and pets.
This trail is not meant for bikes. Its purely mountain hiking. You will find rocky pathways 95% of the route. Make sure you come here early to finish the loop during day light.
we came here to hike on a side trip from Philadelphia and I am very glad we did. The trail was nice and buried enough. We also had the trail to ourselves for the majority of the hike which was nice. There is plenty of parking and they have portable toilets next to the parking lot.
This place was a great find. We took our kids and 2-year-old lab here to explore this new space. After at least a couple hours we were plenty tired climbing and traversing the trails and boulders.
Trail conditions & character
“Personally, although I ride an XC full suspension bicycle, I particularly enjoy tackling the pipeline climb; it's an amazing challenge and perfect for those looking to chase a KOM.”
“My calculation for this trail was somehow wrong and I was almost stuck mid way in the dark and was concerned if I will make it back to the parking lot or may loose my path.”
“Starting early at 8:00 am was definitely the right move—it allowed for a peaceful, quiet experience before the trails got busier.”
“The incline is not too bad, but the uneven and rocky trails makes for a bit of a challenge.”
“The trail markings and signage are great, however, the QR code on the trail marker doesn't work.”
“I completed the full outer trail loop in June, which came out to about 7.”
