Confirmed from South Cape May Meadows Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Imagine it; Harriet Tubman, standing on the beach in front of the lighthouse waiting for more people fleeing slavery. At the same time, the slave owners who went to Cape May to avoid the summer heat were sitting on the veranda of Congress Hall drinking a mint julip.

The Meadows one of the most peaceful and ecologically rich spots in Cape May and the entire Delaware Estuary. I am not a pro birdwatcher but this place is a great training ground: always shorebirds, herons, egrets, raptors (osprey, hawks) and tons of other stuff I can't identify.

What a beautiful place to walk around and observe nature at its best. It was cool to see the Piping Plover nesting on the zoned off beach that allows for them to safely nest. I also saw egrets and other birds along the way. I appreciated the bird blind and the raised platform with free viewing binoculars.

My favorite hiking and birding spot around the shore of NJ. The fall migration is having its peak now. Millions of birds are moving during this time. We saw a lot of songbirds and blooming flowers around the meadow.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 11 mentions

“Lots of water bodies with observation towers and a phenomenal bird blind to view the various shorebirds and other water birds from.”
