Confirmed from South Shore Trail Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Beautiful area, and a perfect destination if you're looking for a hike. There are many areas to hike and enjoy the outdoors in Montana, they are a dime a dozen. This area stood out to me for its beautiful views, and the way that people that use it have obviously taken care of it.

If you need a great area to go for a hike, jog, bike ride, or anything that requires a trail and being outside then check this trail out. You can go on the main paved trail for a good joke. You can go off the trail onto some gravel/dirt trails as well. Lots of benches to sit on throughout the walk.

I love these trails, especially the Blacks. Of course I designed them and spent hundreds of hours, with much help, so I'm biased. Just an updated we completed No Tap, an extension to Mayhem, annnnnd are now building an extension to No Tap so stay tuned and glad so many folks like our trails😃

Well maintained single track trails. They just replaced the signs and trail markers too!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
