Confirmed from Sparta Glen Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Very nice park with paved and dirt/rocky trails. The paved section follows along Sparta Glen Brook. There are benches and picnic tables with grills along the way. Not too many people here either.

★★★★☆ — Rich , Oct 2018

Best park in Sparta and the only dog-friendly one, at that. Mix of trails and walkable areas for all skill levels.

★★★★★ — Nicole , Aug 2025

Quiet park with quick and fairly good views of the lake. A couple loop trails exist in the 2-3mile range and have a couple hundred feet of gain. Trails are horribly marked with many people getting lost along the way.

★★★★☆ — Kent , Aug 2019

Love this park. Quiet little spot with plenty of places to stop for a picnic or stroll. The trail to the summit could be blazed better but is definitely worth the hike. Porta potty available. Especially magical in autumn. Mushroom paradise! Feel safe to walk here alone.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
