Confirmed from Spencer Butte Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This forested natural area consists of a rugged hiking trail up to the top of a scenic butte.
What runners say about Spencer Butte Park
“A stellar little park near Eugene with well-maintained and marked trails, beautiful views, and a blend of difficulties (though nothing technical).”
“It's pretty busy but once at the top it is gorgeous and tons of rocks to lounge on and take in the beauty while not having to be right next to someone else.”
“I will say, however, that this is NOT a family friendly or a beginner's hike!”
Beautiful from the bottom all the way to the top. My first time I traveled through Eugene, I could only make it 1/2 way up. When I traveled through Eugene, OR about a month ago, I just had to stop and achieve my goal of making it all the way to the top. My pup and I did it.
Fabulous hike just south of eugene. If you're wondering about the difficulty, my 5 year old made it without complaint. That was my worry, the difficulty with my dad bod, could I make it? I did. The views from the top are amazing and there is a marker on the top rock indicating the height.
I've been hiking to alot of new destinations with the kids and so far this is our favorite! There are multiple trails to take up to the top. Two main ones. One is easy and one is labeled difficult. Once you get to the top though there's an amazing well deserved breeze and a view unlike any other.
Spencer Butte is a good place to go when you want a short hike with a great view at the top. There are two trails from the parking lot and the longer one has been improved recently by the addition of steps toward the top. It is a good hike even for small kids. Parking can get tight on weekends and other popular times.
