Confirmed from Steinmetz Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Area featuring a playground, picnic tables, clean grounds and a basketball court, plus a pond.
What runners say about Steinmetz Park
“Quite clean park comparison to other places within city.”
“Beautiful atmosphere, I absolutely love the added new fountain and the leaves changing in the Autumn time.”
The recent up grades and improvements that have been made to this park make for a nice place to take the kids and have them run off some energy. Around the back side of the pond is a second parking area with picnic tables if you don't want to go by the playground. There is also decent fishing in the pond.
Quite clean park comparison to other places within city. Great place for the weekends, afternoons cookouts, fishing, jogging, playing basketball, horseshoes and many others outdoors games not only for families with children but adults and elders too.
Cute old school park. It has a playground for kids, basketball courts, an eating area, and a lovely large pond. I like to walk the dogs around, taking in the sights. I've been told that prior generations used to go swimming in the pond, but nowadays it's used mostly for fishing sun fish and bass.
Been coming here for over 30 years. Even broke my collarbone jumping off the big slide back when I was a little kid. Good park with a nice pond and path to run or walk. Good to see updated equipment and a pavilion added a few years back. Nice gem for the North Side !

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
