Confirmed from Stuart & Emma Thomas Memorial Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“The trail is suitable for all ages.”

Lovely short trail with a few branching options. One of the quietest spots in Winston-Salem

★★★★★ — Benjamin , Mar 2024

A wonderful little new trail. There are two trailheads, one on Reynolda and one on Gillette Street. Both parking lots are gravel and have picnic tables. The trail is suitable for all ages. There are some smaller hills, but it's generally an easy trail. The trail can get muddy at times.

★★★★★ — Danny , Apr 2023

It’s a nice beginner trail. The loops 0.75 and 1 mile long, are 90% just field so not a lot to see. It’s a great place if you want to go for a short walk.

★★★★★ — Cavekrieger , May 2023

First time here. The "south" loop was locked so I walked the north loop. The trail was a little confusing due to overgrowth. However I rediscovered my way. Great trail for birding.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
