Confirmed from Summit Lake Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park with a community center hosting various leagues, meetings, classes & events.
What runners say about Summit Lake Trailhead
“It is a nice relaxing trail its clean and has benches to enjoy the water.”
“They don’t only have playground and a great view, but they also have big tree trunks for the kids to climb.”
One of my top 5 favorites on the towpath. It's a beautiful section of the towpath with lots of history. The new nature center is enough reason to check it out.
Nice trail with beautiful scenery. Biked this trail twice, and I really enjoyed biking the trail; however, there are areas on the trail I would be more comfortable biking with a partner.
Beautiful lake! Many beautiful views for picture taking. Paved flat trail excellent for anyone INCLUDING persons with physical limitations. Fishing pier. Nice play areas for kids! I understand there is a bridge that I didn't have time to go on today but that I am looking forward to checking out the next time I go.
When I was younger I lived very near there. My little girl and I used to walk the towpath trail often. We inevitably ended up going to the park and community center. At the center, together we learned to dance. They also had several community outreach programs. Good memories.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
