Confirmed from Sunset Beach Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Sunset Beach Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (224 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“The water/swim area is clean and well marked, and there's a dock for jumping off/sunbathing.”

The walking path is nice and anyone can get to the dock now but there is less hillside and the spontaneity of the old style feels lost. The dock is raised and seems much safer. There is a bbq and picnic area that I'm sure is first come first serve.

Nice spot but it's popular. Lots of people and it's mostly a hill. Parking gets full quick! Dock is fun to jump off of and the lake is clean with a mostly sandy bottom

Well for being the only free parking spot in the lake that I know of, it was small and cute, just wish there was more of a flat spot, as I have a almost 2 yr old that wanted to run all over and was afraid she would run off the edge/cliff... But, overall for what it is...it's got a amazing view of the lake and sunset.

It's a decent place to get into ths lake. It is a stretch to call it a park as there's no restroom and the hill is difficult to manage. Not recommended for kids. Parking is about 6 spots. Just 1 table and quite a few stairs from parking to lake/dock. Locals hang out here so it's less crowded.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“Only 5 or so parking spots and if you're walking here, the city needs to add sidewalks around the lake.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
