Confirmed from Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
A 23-acre natural area along a ridge & creek with a beech forest, floodplains & a mile-long trail.
What runners say about Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve
“It’s not one of the better outdoor options in the triangle, but it is serene and very walkable!”
Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve may be small, but it offers a surprising amount of variety. There is a trail along the creek and then one that goes up on top of the bluffs for a really nice view. It's perfect for getting the less adventurous or the less trained out into some nature without a big commitment.
Pretty place! Trails have lots of elevation change. Makes for a great hike
Awesome place to come for quick hike in south Raleigh. The parking is a bit hidden but is on southbound lane of Holly Spring Rd. In the fall all the leaves cover the tree roots and make the stairs a bit slippery, so take proper precautions.
A peaceful walking trail with short, ambiguously marked paths and a small parking lot.
Trail conditions & character
“The parking area on the eastern side has room for about seven cars and it is next to what smells like a sewage treatment plant (the only unpleasant part of the hike).”
“We went during the winter and it was so cool to see on top of the hills.”
