Confirmed from Swinging Bridge Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Swinging Bridge Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (66 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“It was a beautiful day with beautiful views, great scenery, & plenty of historical reference around the area so we could read about the bridge.”

Picturesque suspension foot bridge over a soothing river flow. This is a nice US1 stop to stretch your legs and take in some local history. Parking is very limited with 5 total spaces including 1 ADA. No other amenities. I included a couple pics of the up river train trestle accessible by the river trail opposite US1.

Pedestrian Bridge with an interesting history. Built so that French Canadian mill workers could walk to work from their homes across the Androscoggin River. Good views as you walk across and there's a paved walking trail on the other side. Parking is extremely limited.

★★★★☆ — R , Jul 2023

Very simple area, small parking area on each side of the walking bridge. Nice views of the river, birds, and natural and scenes. Sometimes no one else is around, other times there's a lot of foot traffic. No facilities or attractions other than bridge and nature.

★★★★☆ — Valerie , Nov 2024

We love this park. Has a short walk path far from the cars, the bridge has very cute and comforting views and sometimes we find ducks (which my daughter loves to feed).

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
