Confirmed from Tam McArthur Rim Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Tam McArthur Rim Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (104 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“At the end of the trail, you're rewarded with a great view of the valley, and a so-close-you-could-touch view of the Sisters.”

*Note that this hike requires a NW Forest Pass as well as day-use/overnight limited entry permits during peak season. I did this hike early October and the weather was amazing. Camped at Three Creek Lake the night before which was a bit of a cluster, but worked out well.

Great start for hiking in the Broken Top area. No Name Lake, Green Lakes, Tam McArthur Rim, Broken Top Loop and many more adventures can be started from here.

★★★★★ — J , Oct 2020

Tam McArthur Rim to Broken Hand is the most beautiful and breathtaking day-hikes I’ve ever been on. I told my wife, if it wasn’t so remote I would request my ashes spread here (I know illegal). It’s a 9+ mile round trip hike with nearly 1,800 feet elevation gain though most is in the first 2 miles.

This is one our favorite all-time hikes! If you stay in Sisters there is a road that leads directly to the trailhead. You park on the road. You are supposed to get a day pass from recreation.gov for $1. We did but nobody was checking. Same for the parking pass.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 31 mentions

“I kept going past broken hand to the overlook of No Name Lake and Bend Glacier, I HIGHLY recommend that you make the extra effort to go there as the views are out of this world.”

“Otherwise, it is a very reasonable climb up over distance, enough to make you sweat and feel good, but not enough that you're overly exhausted.”
