Confirmed from The 606's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Created on a former rail line, this elevated, 2.7 mile landscaped trail draws runners & bikers.
What runners say about The 606
“The paths and park appear well maintained, and there are many murals and art installations in the area.”
“Beautiful greenery, plenty of space, benches to relax in the sun.”
“A great raised walking, running, biking path in the middle of the city.”
When it's crowded on hot days, it isn't as fun . But when it is emptier it is amazing. Everything is beautiful and always clean. It is a good place to walk, run or ride your bike. Put on some good music and clear your mind on this amazing trail. There are beautiful plants and flowers everywhere.
I love The 606. It’s a living ribbon of city history, stitched into the neighborhood and still evolving with every step. On warm days it hums with life, walkers, runners, bikes, conversations floating by with the breeze.
I really enjoyed walking this path. The western end is beautiful but the eastern end is more boring. One reviewer complained that this “bike path” is too overrun with walkers, etc but signs are calling this a park and so bikers trying to use it as a “highway” need to calm down.
Loved it! Enjoyed taking a stroll through here. So much to see. Taking my bike next time. Definitely need more time and better condition to walk/run/ride it all through
Trail conditions & character
“It’s clean, easy to access with plenty of entry and exit points, and offers some nice greenery on both sides to break up the city views.”
“More of a jogger, walker, dog walking path than a bikers path, but nice if you use it as a carless/no intersection route to cut across part of the city.”
“7 miles) paved trail that goes East/West from Humboldt Park area to Wicker park.”
“You can enter and exit the trail in multiple areas, and there are water fountains along the way too!”
“There are places to get off the walking trail and grab coffee, food, or restroom.”
