Confirmed from The Ramble's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about The Ramble

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (804 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“So beautiful and big park, trees shade everywhere, flowers and green grass, the birds and goose, lovely paths, nice lakes .”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“It's secluded enough where you have a little peace and quiet, but felt safe enough to hike alone.”

We like talking walks through The Ramble during visits to Central Park. This is approx. 35 acres where you find a web of footpaths winding through bouldered and wooded areas of the Park. The Ramble is between The Lake and the 79th St. transverse street.

In my opinion, the Ramble is the best part of Central Park! The winding trails and heavily wooded areas transport you out of the city for an hour or two. Make sure to check out scenic spots like the Arch and the hilltop viewpoint for great views of the city.

This a a great nature trail to explore. You don’t even feel like you are in a big city just out in the wilderness. A lot of wildlife and places to explore. You can literally get lost in here.

★★★★★ — Kevin , Jun 2023

Not so popular part of the park. Many tourist do not even go up here. Go and explore those paths.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
