Confirmed from Tokul Tunnel's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Tokul Tunnel

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (55 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Great place for a walk complete with scenery, on a sunny day the trees provide a lot of shade and the trail is well kept. There is a gun range right next to the trail so if you are looking for a quiet place this is not it.

★★★★★ — Luke , Jul 2020

It's a big tunnel, and it didn't smell too nasty either. It wasn't crawling with too many bugs either. It was nice to walk under the busy road above instead of risking our lives. If you walk north of the tunnel, you'll come to a massive wooden bridge that goes over a river.

★★★★★ — Heathspeaks , Mar 2023

This is specifically about the tunnel that goes under Tokul Road. First the stairs from the tunnel to the road are on the other, east, side. The west side does have a path but it is slippery as it is just loose rock.

★★★★☆ — David , Jan 2024

According to the sign, this tunnel marks the end of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail; technically it's not because there's another ~1/2-mi. extension if you were to walk your bike up onto the road above the tunnel and ride to SE 60th Street then onto 390th Ave. SE.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 5 mentions

“Nicely maintained trail, most of the trail overlooks a gun range so don't expect peace and quiet, but a nice walk otherwise.”

“Also if you go further down the path there is a path up to SE 60th that allows you to get to the road without needing to climb the stairs or push the bike up the hill.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
