Confirmed from Trail of the Four Winds' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Trail of the Four Winds

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (24 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Saw deer, wild turkeys, bunch of beautiful insects like bright green beetles and gorgeous butterflies.”

Views are not that great. Someone does a lot to maintain. It’s a little more challenging than you wpuld think. So many leaves that rocks are hidden. My daughter slipped twice and me once. When I say slipped I mean fell to the ground. Leaves are slippery. H Gorgeous hike though.

Nice easy/moderate trail. (north loop) Very well marked. The first 3/4mi and the last mile or so were a little boggy, granted we did go shortly after a rain. Took my dogs on it, there were two spots there was no hope but to get your feet wet to cross. Also, the trail said 4.1 ended up being a little over 5.1 miles.

Awesome morning quick hike, around four miles. Saw deer, wild turkeys, bunch of beautiful insects like bright green beetles and gorgeous butterflies. Some places were muddy, bring good shoes, crossed streams many times on this loop hike.

★★★★☆ — Daryl , Jul 2021

I have hiked both of these trails and they are my absolute favorites. The longer trail (blazed in red) is definitely harder. You need to bring water and maybe snacks but you must be in shape. Not only is the trail more difficult, but there is also no way to make it shorter. The 4.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Trail of the Four Winds

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
