Confirmed from Walnut Creek Open Space's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“It’s a really beautiful open space overlooking Walnut Creek and Concord, just make sure to not go past the “NOT A TRAIL” signs because the signs tell you to.”

Walnut Creek Open Space is a great place to enjoy nature and get some fresh air. The trails are well-maintained and offer a mix of easy dirt paths for walking and a smooth concrete road that’s perfect for biking, skating, or scootering.

Absolutely love this area. Regardless of which trailhead you select there are loads of options. If you go out early enough in the morning your likely to see wildlife - deer, turkeys, hummingbirds, owls, blue birds and more. I hike at least 3x/week when I visit my parents, all times of the year and it never disappoints.

I love this place. It is a fantastic option for off leash dog walking or hiking in general. It’s very dry in the summer but absolutely gorgeous when it’s green.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
