Confirmed from Washington Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This 220-acre city park offers camping, a boat launch, day-use picnic sites & a scenic loop road.
What runners say about Washington Park
“This place is so cool, it had all kinds of trails amazing spots to just stop and take it all in, just a beautiful place.”
Lovely scenic drive, nonstop takes about 30 minutes. But you have to stop! The view draws you in. Views sweeping over the sound, you can watch the ferries pass each other. Picnic tables in grassy outcroppings, and flush toilets at the start of the loop. Makes for a lovely day.
We really like walking the loop at this nature park. I’ve never camped here, but in nice weather we’ll do a picnic. The views of the Sound are fantastic. The only downside is having to compete for space with cars driving the loop. The paved surface is great for bikes.
I’ve been coming here since I was 1, and it hasn’t lost any of its luster. There is something for everyone: trails, beach (sand and rock), playground, lookout view points off Loop Road, camping sites, a boat launch, bbq areas (covered), and amazing views in all directions.
This is a great destination, it has the most gorgeous views of the San Juan Islands! It is a large city park with ample parking, boat and beach access, hiking trails, and picnic spots everywhere. We spent a lovely afternoon there.

“The main path is paved, but be on the lookout for cars as they can drive on it and you'll have to move off the path.”
“What a great walk with my sweetie and the two white dogs.”
“Rocky beaches that are different and mostly all accessible all around the peninsula by foot, bike, car (cetrain times) with parking along the way as well, to check it all out.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
