Confirmed from Wheat Ridge Greenbelt Open Space's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Scenic park (7+ miles of trail running along Clear Creek that's popular for biking, birding and dog-walking).

What runners say about Wheat Ridge Greenbelt Open Space

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (64 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“It’s awesome here, great that it’s in the city and so beautiful”

It's kind of a hidden gem... lovely trail to walk or bike on. Be wary of the biking path if you have kids or dogs with you- they go pretty fast on this trail. Easy, mostly level walking path with lots of access points to Clear Creek and great swimming for dogs and people alike.

Great, rustic feel without leaving the city. Well-used and well-cared for biking, hiking trail along Clear Creek in Wheat Ridge.

★★★★★ — Kathleen , Mar 2022

A great little trail right off of Kipling! Perfect for dogs, kids and other humans of all ages. You pass some lakes where people fish and even an area for gold panning. We saw lots of flowers and birds and even a few lizards.

★★★★★ — Birdie , Jun 2020

Excellent trail when its not 90 + outside. It is very busy with bicyclists though. There is a dirt trail that breaks off and follows the River which has several deep water holes for the dog to jump and retrieve in. Just wish there weren't so many bicyclists so be careful with a leashed dog.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 12 mentions

“My only complaint has ever been the number of people that just don't keep their dogs in check and they're all over the place on or off the leash sometimes.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
