Confirmed from Whiting Road Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
240-acre preserve offering a variety of plants, birds & other wildlife, plus multi-use trails.
What runners say about Whiting Road Nature Preserve
“Well maintained trails complete with bridges over moist spots.”
“Beautiful views across butterfly fields and woods of hemlock, cherry, oak and other hardwoods.”
“Well-marked trails and helpful "you are here" maps at the trail intersections.”
Whiting Nature Preserve is a wonderful multi-use trail. I often mountain bike there early morning before the trails get active. Trails range from easy to moderate, with a few technical areas. There are many miles of trails, so encountering other people is infrequent. In the evening, we take our 3 year old hiking there.
Very nice nature park. Lots of trails, from easy to moderate. Beautiful views across butterfly fields and woods of hemlock, cherry, oak and other hardwoods. Well maintained trails complete with bridges over moist spots.
Wide, well-trimmed and blazed trails over a wide variety of habitats. Nice sign posts and maps at trail intersections too. Good place to find birds.
Great place to enjoy nature. Most trails moderately strenuous. Dogs allowed. Poop bags provided with a trashcan at trailhead/parking area. Most of the trails have steep but short climbs and decents. Many roots one must navigate around. I went on orange, red, pink and blue trails.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
