Confirmed from Gosnell Big Woods Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Gosnell Big Woods Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (237 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“Had the best day here, the trails are stunning and there’s so much to see if you know where to look.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 6 mentions

“Great place to go for a short hike with plenty of nature around and an excellent please to take dogs for a walk.”

Liked it... there were some confusing parts getting around, but it worked out. There is an unmarked trail in between Big woods trail and Big field trail. The wegmans passport marker is gone for the Big Woods Trail too. Lots of inclines... nice endurance tester doing the whole trail system and vosburg trail as well.

It was pretty and peaceful, though it felt rather small, so even though there weren't that many people there, it seemed crowded. If we had taken a different trail, maybe it would have panned out differently. Regardless, we still got to see some monarch butterflies and interesting plants/flowers.

Gosnell Big Woods was a great winter outing. Got plenty of sunshine! People were out snow-shoeing and cross country skiing. The trail is also perfect to pull a sled for little ones. The trails go around fields and through the woods. Our dog loved it too!

Very nice preserve in Webster! There’s a main loop trail that goes around the big open field and some other side trails that go into the woods connecting to Whiting Road Preserve.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 14 mentions

“The singletrack trails include wonderful views but can be challenging due to the short but steep climbs and descents (especially when wet).”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
