Confirmed from Wildwood Canyon Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Wildwood Canyon Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (594 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“I wasn't planning to go hiking at all, but saw a trail and decided to walk and see what scenic views I might stumble on.”

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“Go early morning or before sunset during the warm months because there is very little shade.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Other than that it's a beautiful and peaceful place to go.”

Trail is very well marked. On the day we went we followed horse and bike tracks mostly so it seems not much foot traffic on this trail. Only came across a handful of people as we got closer to the end of our trail. I would say the trail is easy to moderate.

I wasn't planning to go hiking at all, but saw a trail and decided to walk and see what scenic views I might stumble on. It takes a couple hours to walk, and some of it is a bit steep, but some of the views are just outstanding. I am not from California, so being able to see out over the city was delightful.

★★★★★ — Howard , Mar 2019

The total hike was about 2.5 miles and around 50 flights high. The views were really good. But the hike was really too short. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of parking spots available. Watch out for tiny lizards, there are plenty of them. They are quite brave and doesn’t run away.

★★★★☆ — Pritam , Apr 2021

Steep incline for most of the hike. 1700+ foot elevation in 80 mins. Make sure to have decent hiking shoes. There is no shade throughout the trail so hike at your own risk, especially during summer. Excellent incline training area in the heart of the Los Angeles valley.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
