Confirmed from Windham Rail Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Paved recreational route that's great for walking, biking and rollerblading.

What runners say about Windham Rail Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (397 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 10 mentions

“A very well maintained & paved walking & biking trail that goes on for miles and miles and miles.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Beautiful views of wetlands and forrest, well maintained rail trail with parking at the Depot.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“A beautiful canopy of trees shade the trail.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“The stretch from Windham Rail Trail south to Salem Depot is very flat, well-paved, and peaceful as it leads you through forests, an overpass, and along streams and ponds.”

You can ride all the way North to the Manchester Airport (The only caveat being a small section of trail where you have to go off the rail trail. Unfortunately. I wish the section was completed because then it would be such an awesome, safe ride). Going South towards Salem is also beautiful.

Beautiful views of wetlands and forrest, well maintained rail trail with parking at the Depot. Each end of the trail has parking and places just off the trail to purchase drinks or food. Porto restrooms facilities available at the Depot.

★★★★★ — Chuck , Jul 2020

Our favorite rail trail in NH. Easy and level and not too much bicycle traffic. Lots of dog poop bags which is sad but great place to walk. Lots of shade.

Love this place! Grounds are kept very clean and plenty of parking. My Boston Terrier and I love walking this trail!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
