Confirmed from Winding Stairs Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“like the paved, short, lookout trail, beautiful waterfalls, creeks flowing through, and dirt paths of different lengths to fun destinations.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions
🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

“There is a nice cement pathway for wheelchair accessible people, and it made it nice for my little dog and I to walk along on.”

Neat little place to explore and do a little hike. It’s a bit steep going down to the falls and coming back, but there are well placed stairs and handrails. Much of the area was pretty wet and slick in spots, so the stairs and handrails were helpful. Neat little spot hidden off the main road in Lafayette.

Seriously one of the most beautiful trails ever! I will warn you though it is not for the weak hearted, they have accessible overlooks that are nice but to get down to the waterfall there are several steps that you must also come back up.

Amazing that this place exists where it does. The geology and hydrology that created this place is mindblowing. What a great place to spend a few hours, get a good workout and enjoy nature's beauty! Definitely take a picture of the map. Not all trails are on it, but all official trails are marked.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Winding Stairs Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
