Confirmed from Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

We camped out here for the weekend. The campground is one circular lot with I think around 18 spots. Some are basic just for tents and some have water and or electric. The ones on the inside of the circle have more space and are more open but you don't have any privacy.

I stopped here to visit the American Indian Cultural Center and walk/hike a couple of the short trails. Very nice. The Missouri River Overlook Trail was well-maintained and mostly level. The Memorial Trail was also well-maintained with an incline I found easy to climb but could be difficult for some.

We found such a variety of etiable Autumn mushrooms! So beautiful, just a great way to get out. Pick a path, then enjoy nature!!!

I always love coming here, I come at least one a year, beautiful camp grounds lots of hiking trails, the lake is hard to fish no way to put a boat in and a good hike if you wanted to take a kayak,

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
