Confirmed from Arroyo Hondo Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature preserve with a 2-mi. hiking trail and multiple stream crossings, plus guided tours.
What runners say about Arroyo Hondo Preserve
“It's a beautiful site for hiking that's been set aside solely for the nature and it's beauty.”
“Great time, nice combination of easy hikes and strenuous hikes, and creek, woods, mountain and ocean views”
This local gem is up the coast near Refugio Beach. Managed by the land trust, the public can visit for free (donations appreciated) on the first and third weekends of the month by signing up on the website. There are school tours during the week (but you can sign up as a homeschool group too) Mondays and Wednesdays.
Great hike. Stunning views! The upper loop is pretty strenuous but the views are amazing! The lower loop.brings you around to the trout pond and lots of shade. The docents are so sweet and knowledgeable of the area. We had a great day!! Reservation only.
I can't tell you how many times I've driven right past the Arroyo Hondo Preserve (A.H.) and never knew it was there. It's a beautiful site for hiking that's been set aside solely for the nature and it's beauty. I did the 2 1/2 hour 2 mile hike lead by a highly educated Docent (volunteer).
Went there on an elementary school field trip. It was so beautiful ! Great hikes. I can’t wait to go back again with the whole family !
