Confirmed from Atwood Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Riverside park on an old artillery range with a bird-of-prey center & outdoor education facility.
What runners say about Atwood Park

Beautiful park with lots of trails, lots of mountain bike trails, cool birds of prey exhibit. Old bunkers from camp Grant days.
My favorite park. Lots of nature, great walking and bike riding trails and beautiful views. A hidden gem in the south of Rockford. I recommend everyone go explore this park.
1st time walking/hiking off the main paved path. Clean and big with shaded and sunny parts. There are up and downhill parts of trails, but as an out-of-shape 50-something it was fine and still a decent workout. Scenic bridge across the Kish is nice. As a newb I wish the trails had more and better markings and posts.
There's a outdoor bird sanctuary here open daily and they do live feedings on sat at 1pm not to mention plenty of paths to get work out on was an old army fort/bootcamp/training grounds (I guess)

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
