Confirmed from Kilbuck Bluffs Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Laid-back option for hiking, strolling, picnicking, fishing and nature viewing.
What runners say about Kilbuck Bluffs Forest Preserve
Very nice area. Dirt paths and some breathtaking trees. Picnic areas and out houses.
Sure, the trails could be trimmed a bit, but this preserve is really a local gem and an excellent example of the diversity of Northern Illinois. The giant sycamores near the creek are a great example. The architecture of the stone shelters is a nice surprise, like something out of a European countryside.
The snow is finally backing off enough to walk through the park that makes it nice
Driving through here, it wasn't apparent where any paths were except for one and there was no parking by it. This place has some nice outbuildings and open areas.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadrestrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
