Confirmed from Audubon Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Great spot for a leisurely walk through the woods and along the shoreline on the east shore of the Sakonnet River. Beautiful views of Woodlands, clearings, marshes, inlets, and the river. It's easy to find and get to. The entrance and parking lot are well marked.

A green space like this can be covered in about 2 to 3 hours. It has about 2 to 3 miles of trails that range from easy to medium technical terrain. Most of the trail is flat surface, with some spaces covered by boardwalk, some root systems, and small separations between rock walls.

We talked several of the trails, heard lots of varieties of birds. It was after a rain storm. Trails well maintained and flat.

★★★★★ — Kevin , May 2025

Beautiful flat walk around the marshes. Easy walking with lots of birds and wildlife. Nice quiet area. You can get in about a mile of steps here but I do the loop twice for a bit more.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Audubon Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
