Confirmed from Fort Barton and Ft. Barton Woods' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Hiking trails, bridges, hills, creeks, streams and an observation tower in a peaceful nature area with a fort and 2nd-story lookout.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 11 mentions

“The forest trails behind are BEAUTIFUL, full of great photo opportunities, and not so long that you need a ton of hiking gear.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 9 mentions

“While we didn't end up seeing it ourselves, it was a peaceful and relaxing way to spend an afternoon.”

Well maintained trails and a spectacular view from the observation tower - make this historic place a stop on your next trip to Tiverton. The only drawback: The trails can be quite muddy (there is marshland, after all). I visited during a drought and they were still wet in places.

★★★★☆ — Erich , May 2022

Fantastic area for hiking, and spending time in the great outdoors. The tower has excellent views of the bay. There is also the old cemetery and revolutionary war redoubt for the history buff.

★★★★★ — Samuel , Jul 2020

This is my go to place in the area. If you do the entire track from the front through the loop it's about 2 mi and it's not flat ground so it's good for exercise.

★★★★☆ — Tyler , Nov 2024

Great little trail. Pretty quiet when I was there. Beautiful view of the bay from the lookout tower.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
